Background

I’m Ken English, producer and host of Liquid Lounge.

Physically, the Lounge is located in 20-feet of water, 200 yards east of Nikki Beach at the southern end of Miami Beach. Mentally, the Lounge is anywhere you want it to be.

Every Saturday at 4:30 PM, I present information about the waterside of the world during Caribbean Riddims with Eddy Edwards on WKAT 1360 AM in Miami.

The content of the radio show, and this blog, has a waterside focus.

On the surface, you’ll find resorts, restaurants and clubs. Below the surface, you find artificial reefs and environmental issues such as over-fishing, shark-finning, coral-bleaching and algae blooms.

I plan to podcast the show, recording it under under the palms trees that wrap around Nikki Beach. I’ll have guests who are into eco-tourism, environmental education, music and art. I’ve done a couple of rehearsal shows. If you’re interested, listen to: Lunch at the Lounge.

Beginning February 13th, Lunch at the Lounge will be heard at Noon on BlogTalkRadio.

Speaking of art, I’m working on an idea for an marine art exhibit at this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach. In December, the second largest art industry event takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Each year, new venues are opened to showcase new artists. Todate, there is not a marine art-oriented exhibition area, dispite the fact there are exceptionally talented artists and sculptors whose work depictes the beauty and vibrance of the underwater world.

Frankly, I think it’s time that art is used to influence people’s view of the water.

I am planning to follow the underwater art of Kim Brandell, Ross Power, Simon Morris and, my favorite idealist, Foots, who continues to splash around in the water near Cayman Brac. Recently, I met watercolor artist – Eileen Seitz and marine artist Carey Chen at a boat show. I’ve met the ‘painter of blue,’ Pascal Lecocq at several dive industry events. Carlos Hiller of Costa Rica was at DEMA. One ‘discovery’ is Shawn Garner, who is ‘bending’ the rules a little with some of his conceptual art.
